For many women, dieting equals food restriction. Snacks? They usually get eliminated in the name of saving calories. But snacking when you're watching your weight is actually a good idea. "[When dieting,] people often wait too long in between meals, so by the time they eat, they're so hungry, their portions or choices are out of control," says Linda McLachlan, RD, CDN, a New Jersey dietitian with Nutrition Matters, LLC. "Snacking helps keep you satisfied and wards off cravings." Here, seven low-calorie snacks to help you with your diet goals.
It's as simple a snack recipe as can be, but unusually satisfying: For a twist on plain homemade popcorn, try drizzling it with olive oil and sprinkling it with za'atar, the heady Middle Eastern spice blend of oregano, thyme, sesame seeds, and tart sumac. You can check out all our popcorn flavors here, including Thai coconut curry, miso soup, and roast chicken dinner; those three are vegan if you swap out the butter.

Who doesn’t love miso? It’s a soy-based drink/soup that originated in Japan. Love miso? Please note – miso is not ideal for people who need to avoid sodium/salt.
Vegan smoothies are filling, nourishing, packed with energizing plant foods and.. they’re good for the soul 🙂 Try the Bikini Ready Green Detox Smoothie or the Energizing Green Smoothie Bowl and get your greens in! Smoothie Bowls are amazing because you can add extra goodness from your favorite superfood toppings. You may be wondering, why would I sip my smoothie from a bowl?!! Smoothie bowls typically have a thicker consistency than a regular smoothie, making it fun to scoop up, along with crunchy toppings. Smoothie bowls feel more substantial to me, like an actual meal – because most regular smoothies don’t keep me full for long. Try it out!

A calorie-free beverage doesn't qualify as a real snack, but if you find yourself scouting the kitchen just because you're bored, rather than hungry, this tasty drink may just hit the spot. Plus, green tea has been shown to help dieters lose more weight, according to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, thanks to its metabolism-boosting antioxidant compound called EGCG.

With Whole Foods being the epitome of all things fresh and healthy, all those special vegan treats and goodies can be loaded with fat and unnecessary oils. I’ve been making a conscious effort to follow this low fat, high carb plant based diet (without stressing about it though) because it allows me to feel my absolute best, eat unlimited amounts of food and maintain my weight without paying attention to calories, portions etc. You can just be. There is no other lifestyle like that!

Put the soy milk into your vitamix and add the drained sunflower seeds. Process till creamy. Add the tofu crumbled and everything else and process till creamy. Taste and adjust seasonings. This tastes seriously cheezy and would make a tasty dip or spread. I wonder if you added agar to this mix if it would be nice as a vegan cheeze. If you added a bit of tapioca to the mix (like that other vegan cheeze recipe) it would be melty as well.
Oatmeal is a complex carb, meaning it helps fill you up without spiking your blood sugar. Plus, it's a good source of fiber and eating more fiber helps people lose weight and keep it off. While we think of it typically as breakfast, a small bowl of oats makes a hearty, filling and delicious snack. To make this snack more convenient-keep a packet or two of unsweetened instant oatmeal at your desk or make overnight oats in a mason jar.
Bust out your slow cooker and make some chili. A pot of chili will last you all week long and is perfect for any season and for any meal. Vegan chili is super easy; all you need are some spices, a couple cans of beans, and simple vegetables like corn, onion, and tomatoes. Chili is adaptable and tastes super with other ingredients like beer or sweet potatoes. This Three Bean and Sweet Potato Chili is a vegan wonder as you just need to add your ingredients and let them simmer. Same goes for this Sweet and Spicy Pumpkin Chili. Chili also makes for an extraordinary make-ahead meal. For the more adventurous, add some vegan sour cream or cheese for an extra indulgence. To use up those leftover pantry goods, this Frito Chili Pie is an American bar-food staple that definitely suits a lazy vegan lifestyle. For more slow cooker ideas beyond chili, try using protein-packed lentils in stews and soups.
This classic Sicilian eggplant dish, terrific as a spread, a dip, or a pasta sauce, is proof positive that vegan food doesn't have to be bland. The sweet-and-sour mixture packs in all sorts of intense flavors, including pine nuts, mint, raisins, capers, and vinegar. Even with the long ingredient list, it's not that hard to make: By cooking the ingredients in a particular order, we've engineered this recipe to use just one skillet.
Eating a snack between meals helps curb your hunger so that you don't inhale your dinner when you finally sit down to eat a meal. Snacking can also help you get in all the nutrients you need. On the flip side, grazing all day-particularly on foods with little nutritional value-may result in eating too much. It's a great idea to shop for snacks at the grocery store and pack them for work so you are prepared when hunger strikes. Many of these are also great on-the-go snack options.
For your convenience, we've compiled a list of premade snacks and recipes below that do not include any animal products, whether it be cheese or honey. We do, however, have some “cheesy” snacks on the list including vegan “cheese” kale chips and vegan “cheese” dill chips. Both of these vegan snacks use nutritional yeast to recreate that uniquely “cheesy” flavor.
But it’s far from slim pickings when it comes to vegan snacks that are meat-, dairy-, and egg-free. We’re here to dig you out of your hummus-and-carrots rut with 19 sweet and savory vegan recipes that take less than 10 minutes to put together—because really, when that mid-morning crash, afternoon slump, or post-dinner pang hits, who wants to wait longer than that?
A mini-meal snack is a good idea when dinner is a long way off. The combo of tomato soup and baby carrots is not just filling; it also gives you lots of body-healthy nutrients, like potassium, cancer-fighting lycopene, and beta-carotene. Try a microwavable soup cup that you can stash in your car's cup holder. (Concerned about sodium? Pour about a quarter of the soup down the drain and dilute the rest with water, says McLachlan.)
