Yogurt is and shall remain an important component in our snacking culture. And I’m not speaking of those over-sugared versions, but of proper plain natural yogurt. Make a craft out of it. You won’t believe how many different, almost artisan creations you can come up with. The ingredients of the version above are grapes, walnuts, some cinnamon and a few sprinkles of maple syrup. Love it! Up for more ideas? Have a look over here.
Filled with dates, whole grain oats, and delicious mix-ins of warming spices and superfood ingredients, OJAS STUDIO date and grain bites are a healthy snack dream. They're made with real fruit and no artificial sweeteners, too. They're perfect for eating on the go when you just need a few bites to tide you over till your next meal. Our favorite flavor is Ginger, Cinnamon, and Chia, but they also come in Cardamom, Cinnamon, and Walnut and Coconut, Fig, and Orange Peel varieties, too.
Wine, however, is Alyce’s favourite “snack”. There is a myth out there that alcohol is very calorific which is not strictly true. I think for the fun these calories provide, they are well worth it. Stcik to a small glass (120 – 130 mls) and check the alcohol content of the bottle you’re drinking. The higher the alcohol quantity, the more calories it has. Red wine (generally) has more alcohol than white, chardonnay has more alcohol than sauvignon blanc.
If you’re looking for a post-workout snack with a little more staying power, try this delicious sweet potato toast recipe. Sweet potatoes provide filling fiber and carbohydrates, and ham and egg offer protein to help build muscle. Spinach is a good source of magnesium, which often gets lost in sweat, and carbohydrates for replenishing glycogen stores. Photo and recipe: Carmen Sturdy / Life by Daily Burn
Take my advice. Try it. It’s so frigging easy. Just bish bash bosh the dry stuff together (easier if you buy the spices already ground but still easy peasy if you don’t) and then the wet stuff and thanks to the coconut oil it’s very easy to form into shape and roll. I have had a go at making vegan cheeses. I once made a recipe for vegan pot luck on one of my old blogs for a stromboli using homemade “cheeze”. I want to make fermented cheeses as Steve used to love cheese a LOT. Here’s the link to that recipe. It makes a great stromboli or pizza cheeze.
Although fall is the synonymous season of pumpkin EVERYTHING, if you’re on the keto diet, you shouldn’t skip pumpkin seeds. They’re loaded with healthy fats and protein, and this smoky snack only has four simple ingredients. Get the recipe from DeSantis here, which uses smoked paprika, garlic powder, sea salt, and your choice of oil (for more healthy fat!).
Tomato soup is full of disease-fighting nutrients, but contains as little as 74 calories per cup, no cholesterol, and less than 1 gram of saturated fat. Just keep in mind that there are many varieties. Cream of tomato is significantly higher in fat and calories. When buying canned soup, look for labels that say "low sodium" and check the calorie count.
Freekeh is a cereal made from roasted green wheat. That's the one and only ingredient in this snack's original blend, making it an ideal packaged snack. With zero sodium, four grams of fiber, six grams of protein, and only 130 calories per quarter-cup serving, you can help yourself to an extra-large serving. Try rosemary sage or tamari when you want to mix things up.
Can snacking be a part of a healthy diet? Of course! When you choose a snack, choose one with protein, fat and/or fiber. All of these nutrients take longer to digest, so they fill you up. Snacks are also a great way to add extra nutrition to your day. Think of snacks like carrots and hummus, an apple with almond butter or whole-grain crackers with cheese.
Not really corn but that’s what the blogger to the original recipe (linked below) called it so I’ll stick with that. That was my first time trying the Field Roast frankfurters. Usually I don’t buy shit from the hippie section because of my lame soy sensitivity but I need to start looking more because these are soy free options (no one cares) there once I really looked. These very much inspire me to want to step up my seitan game. I like making lazy, flavorless seitan but I think it would be in my best interest to at least know how to recreate these. Total game changer!
While chili may seem like a main dish, a small scoop of this keto variety can provide you enough protein (almost 3 grams!) to keep you going. "Use an Instant Pot for great fast cooking," says Suzanne Ryan, author of Beyond Simply Keto. To make it, brown your ground beef and sausage, saving half the fat drippings. Chop one green bell pepper and ½ onion. Pour meat, fat, veggies, canned ingredients and spices into your instant pot, and cook for 40 minutes. (This is also a great keto meal-prep recipe to have on hand.)

Packed with fiber, water, and antioxidants, fruits and vegetables are great choices for diet-friendly snacking. But the standard banana or carrots and ranch dip can get old quick. Instead, try a sliced apple with a lowfat cheese wedge, like Laughing Cow Light. "Having a little extra fat is good in a snack because it sustains you longer," says McLachlan.
