Where I live, in Sydney, Australia, there is a sushi shop on every corner. Sushi is always cheap, fresh and readily available. However, if you live in a place where sushi is difficult to come by, simply make your own. Most good Asian grocery shops stock everything you’ll need: sushi rice, nori paper, wasabi, mirin, soy sauce and cucumber. The rice should be made with vinegar and sugar. Limit your portion to approximately 30 grams of dry rice – not much.
Make a big batch of this soup and have a cup each afternoon. It’s packed with fiber and gingery flavor that will keep your stomach satiated for hours! Plus this carrot-ginger soup is packed with antioxidants. And since carrots are rich in vitamin A, this healthy snack may also reduce the risk of heart attacks, protect vision, and lower the risk of getting certain cancers. One serving weighs in at a little over 100 calories and 7 grams of waist-slimming fiber.

Now that's an ingredient list we love looking at when we're picking our favorite healthy snacks to buy. Every bag of Skinny Dipped Almonds contains almonds, chocolate, organic maple sugar, sea salt, cocoa powder, and real powdered flavor (either espresso beans or dried raspberries)—none of that "natural flavor" stuff! Skip out on sketchy snacks to have this sweet treat instead.
Though avocado toast has become something of a cliché, it's popular for a reason—a slice of hearty toast spread with creamy avocado, drizzled with a bit of olive oil, and sprinkled with salt makes a simple, filling, and tasty snack (or breakfast!). If you need a little more excitement than what the basic formula offers, we've got plenty of different ways to give it a twist. One of our favorites is this bright vegan version, which gets its springtime vibe from sweet baby peas, slivers of crisp radish, and fresh basil.
Before you sit down to watch Empire, grab a small bowl of this skinny snack. We love SkinnyPop because it's free of additives and exceptionally tasty—without being too salty. Though we're partial to the Original flavor, the popcorn also comes in equally low-cal flavors like white cheddar and kettle corn if you're in the mood to mix it up. Just a few changes to your diet like this can mean big weight loss.

If you’re looking for a post-workout snack with a little more staying power, try this delicious sweet potato toast recipe. Sweet potatoes provide filling fiber and carbohydrates, and ham and egg offer protein to help build muscle. Spinach is a good source of magnesium, which often gets lost in sweat, and carbohydrates for replenishing glycogen stores. Photo and recipe: Carmen Sturdy / Life by Daily Burn

For a more substantial alternative to cookies, try these no-bake, oat-based bites, where almonds and almond butter pack in healthy fats to make them highly satisfying. Note that the dark chocolate drizzle on top adds a bit of time to the recipe, but as with most things chocolate, it’s totally worth it. Swap in maple syrup for the honey if you follow a strict vegan diet.
As a Web exclusive, we've included a bonus weekend plan so you can indulge (a little!) without sabotaging your success. The menus for Saturday and Sunday include fewer snacks to make way for a treat, whether it's a fast-food fix or glass of wine with dinner. Feel free to swap snack for snack during the week; on weekends, only the snacks that don't constitute breakfast, lunch, or dinner are interchangeable. Follow the plan for a month and you could lose up to eight pounds. Now, that's our idea of a treat.

Healthy choices start in the grocery store. For me, I like to pretend that I do all of my shopping at Whole Foods. It’s basically a dreamland for anyone, but especially plant based vegans and is probably my favorite place, ever. I feel healthier just by being there!! I don’t buy all of my groceries from there quite yet – only the special superfood or vegan items I can’t find anywhere else, along with the 10 other things I didn’t plan on buying, but had to have. Must be the abundance of organic everything and fancy gourmet goodies that are actually vegan! Anyone else?!!! I know you’re obsessed too..
Oatmeal is a complex carb, meaning it helps fill you up without spiking your blood sugar. Plus, it's a good source of fiber and eating more fiber helps people lose weight and keep it off. While we think of it typically as breakfast, a small bowl of oats makes a hearty, filling and delicious snack. To make this snack more convenient-keep a packet or two of unsweetened instant oatmeal at your desk or make overnight oats in a mason jar.
